A mill town on a creek

The town's roots go back to 1766, when a lumber camp, saw mill, grist mill and pottery business were set up here. Its first cotton mill, powered by the Hope Mills Dam, was finished in 1839, and the cotton mills that followed gave the town its name. The town center sits beside the dam on Little Rockfish Creek, which forms the lake.

Local rules

Hope Mills is its own town. We didn't find its tree rules in a citable form, so ask the town before removing a large tree. State rules on NC811 and burning apply everywhere; see tree rules.
