From Clayton Cut to Spring Lake
The place was once known as Clayton Cut and later Prince's Siding. The Spring Lake name first appeared around 1923, for a spring-fed lake that probably formed when the railroad was built about 1860. Growth since World War II is credited to Fort Bragg, and Pope Air Force Base and parts of the post take up large parts of the town limits. The post was called Fort Liberty from 2023 until it was renamed Fort Bragg in February 2025, this time for Private First Class Roland L. Bragg.
The Little River
The Little River, a Cape Fear tributary, runs the length of town from west to east. During Hurricane Matthew, the National Weather Service recorded an all-time high crest on the Little River at Manchester, near Fayetteville.
Local rules
Spring Lake is its own town; ask it about tree rules before a large removal. Work on the post itself isn't covered here.
