The City of Fayetteville collects yard waste and large limbs from single-family homes, with size limits and one big exception: it won't pick up debris a contractor created. That matters when you're comparing tree quotes.

  • Pile: no more than 3 feet high and 10 cubic yards in all, set 4 feet from the curb and clear of obstructions by 6 a.m.
  • When: on A week, the same day as your yard waste collection.
  • Keep it clean: no trash, recyclables or construction material mixed in. Dirt piles, stumps and root balls in the pile are left behind.
  • Bigger piles: over 10 cubic yards must be paid for and scheduled through the FayFixIt app, at 910-433-1FAY (1329), or at 455 Grove Street.
  • Contractors: contractor-generated debris is not collected.

Twigs and trimmings

  • Cut, tie and bundle twigs no longer than 3 feet and no thicker than 3 inches; bundles, cans and bags stay under 50 pounds.
  • Up to ten containerized items a week per single-family home, set 4 feet from the curb.
  • Approved containers: the city's 96-gallon green or brown cart, 32-gallon cans with tight lids and strong handles, or sturdy plastic bags. Tarps, sheets and barrels aren't collected.
  • Loose yard waste at the curb breaks city ordinance and can bring a citation, except loose leaves and pine straw during leaf season, roughly mid-November to mid-March.
  • Yard waste is collected on the opposite day from household trash: Monday trash means Friday yard waste, Tuesday means Thursday, and so on.

What this means for a tree quote

If a contractor takes the tree down, the city won't collect what's left. Ask each contractor whether hauling, chipping and stump grinding are included, so quotes compare like for like.
